Product:
The nursery is known primarily as a grower/supplier of quantity plants and trees, mostly native or naturalized species, some endangered. Sizes range from seedlings to mature in-ground trees. Some house, yard and bedding plants are cultivated for the walk-in trade. The garden center offers common supplies such as agricultural chemicals, fertilizers, potting supplies and similar. The container inventory usually consists of between 25,000 and 40,000 specimens ranging from 1 to 25 gallons.

Services:
Landscape maintenance services, installation, and irrigation are offered. The retail garden center is geared toward small producers and homeowners and offers many products not available elsewhere on the island. Cruzan Gardens offers landscape architectural services, design/build landscaping, irrigation systems, outdoor lighting and professional grounds maintenance.

Accounts
Thirty-day commercial accounts exist for vehicle gas and oil, vehicle and equipment maintenance, hardware, repair and building materials, tools and equipment, locally available and off-island materials and supplies. All accounts are current and in good standing.

Market:
Some walk-in trade, but mostly large buyers, high end homes, government, public and private organizations. Some export to other islands. The garden center inventory is geared toward small farmers and growers.

Competition:
Aside from a few back-yard enterprises, most are finishers or resellers, importing product from nurseries in South Florida or Puerto Rico. They mainly cater to walk-in trade.

Cruzan Gardens is the only primary nursery in the island that is operating on a commercial scale and having the expertise, space and facilities to do so.

History:
The nursery was started in 1963 by Albert and Margaret Hayes, who owned the business until 1998 when the present owner, West Indies Tea & Spice Co., Inc. took possession. The nursery has been in business at the same location, without interruption, for 55 years.

Approximately mid island on busy Route 72, Midland Road, at Estate Colquohoun. A few minutes from the airport, the V.I. Department of Agriculture and the University of the Virgin Islands.
